My New M.S. Legs

After my M.S. diagnosis, I began to quickly learn that my legs no longer worked like they had in my previous life. Balancing my body on them took most of my daily energy. I had so much earlier joy in physical activities that brought me magnificent pleasure. Water skiing, snow skiing, basketball, tennis, jumping, racquetball and more.

After living with Multiple Sclerosis for ten years, I set out to try to do physical activities. Within the first year, most of my energy was spent getting my walker out of the car and then back into the car. So, it certainly appeared I would be taking the slower route to exercise.

I knew I needed to be kind to myself. It was frustrating enough not being able to do my earlier sports, I did not need myself feeling bad to compound the issue. So, I made my goals to align with current reality. Fast forward to 12 months later. I was able to get my walker out of the car and walk a fourth of a mile around the high school track. Fast forward to today, 20 something years later. I currently walk usually a mile. I began lap swimming and try to get to the pool 4 times a week.

How about you? What area of your life needs your kindness and understanding? Be good to yourself.
