Ice Cream Truck
When I was in high school, I was reading the newspaper want ads. Do you remember the newspaper? Random thought—-I still miss the newspaper! A “help wanted” advertisement caught my eye. “Ice-Cream driver wanted.” I really enjoyed ice cream and driving, so I called the company to share my interest. I got the job in the phone call.
I showed up the next day to learn I would be driving a former mail truck. The back of the truck would be carrying a dry-ice cooler. The cooler had ice-cream single bar novelties. I had popular brand names like Klondike Bars, Eskimo Pies, and Good Humor bars.
The best part of the job was that I could eat any ice-cream I carried in the truck free of charge. The second-best part about the job was that I had no territory. I could drive anywhere I wanted to sell my ice-cream bars. I had no hours. I could start and end at whatever time I wanted in this job. At the end of the day, I gave them the cash I had earned. They counted it and then gave me my pay for the day.
….more next week about the cream truck driver…
