Mathematical Disaster
Like the Olympic athletes who fall, I join them in getting back up. I had a third grade teacher who avoided teaching some of the basics of fractions that we would need to know about for 4th grade. So, my distaste for math began in the humble halls of Elementary school.
I took math then throughout my schooling. I never liked it and skated by on most of the assignments. I usually got an “A” for completing the assigned homework, but often during testing I would freeze up my memory and I would not be able to remember equations and how to complete a problem.
I was so happy when I went to college at Western and knew I wanted to be a teacher in language arts. Teaching drama, English, Communications to junior and senior high students I did not need to take any math classes. I was in my element and knew I could carry out my degree.
