Back to Italy
Lets head back to the topic of the Winter Olympics…
Sometimes, the television producer will run a special segment detailing the athlete’s character. The athlete's years of preparation, personal and financial planning for the sport they love. The athlete's perseverance and sacrificial character is assumed before the athlete performs.
Then, as they compete, they fall. It is a moment of collapse that ends their expected accomplishment. It breaks my heart. It puts a tiny pit in my stomach. Then, they get back up. They stand up. They finish what they started.
While I do not think I will ever be in the Olympics, the character traits the athletes exemplify are some of the practices I want displayed in my life: grit, perseverance, loyalty, and fortitude. These are just a few of the characteristics on display. May we strive to be a people who “live the encouraged life” despite any downturns we experience in this life.
