“D for Degree!”
After going to Western and completing my undergrad, I got married and moved to Kansas. My degree in that state required college Algebra to get the degree. So, I incorrectly reasoned, that if I took the math class, during the summer at a community college it would be easier than at university.
I was completely wrong in my thinking. Following my established pattern of performing well on assignments and poorly performing on tests I did terrible. I was so terrible that I received a letter grade of “F” for the class.
I was devastated. I usually got “A” s and “B” s on all my coursework. This course weighed tests higher than the assignments. So, what did I do? I signed up for the course again and tutoring sessions at a math lab. The first day of the course with the same professor. I still remember his look of shock when he saw me again in the class. I met with him and explained all I was doing to try and pass his class.
When final grades I arrived, I was thrilled to open the mail announcing my grade. I earned a “D” in the class. I danced with joy. I could now complete the rest of my degree with a passing math class. 💕Lynn
