Some more fitness thinking…
I typically walk 6 days a week. The more I thought about it, the more dissatisfied I was with my routine. I knew my legs were getting a decent workout, but the rest of my body was getting nothing. There are so many physical things that I can no longer participate in because my balance is incredibly challenging. So, I kept thinking about it and realized I could do lap swim to work on the other parts of my body. So, I headed to the South Kitsap pool to start doing lap swim. The first week, 6 months ago, I could only swim one lap (100 meters). Getting out of the pool on the ladder was challenging. I almost gave up and started to crawl to the women’s locker room once my body was at the top of the ladder. So, I decided to try to add a lap every week to my swimming. Now, five months latter I am typically swimming for 30 minutes. I can get out of the pool without needing to crawl. It is just the concept of two steps forward, one step backward. I do not become discouraged by the backward step. I just know it will be part of the process. So, go easy on yourself as you press in to something new and challenging.
